JOB SUMMARY:As a member of the Product Development Team, this position is responsible for generating marketable Personal Insurance (PI) product innovations, ensuring that the most favorable concepts reach market, and leveraging the established repeatable ¿manufacturing¿ product development process. This position works to generate and evaluate creative business concepts utilizing cost benefit analysis and appropriate financial rigor. The position also takes an active role in the formulation and implementation of product development strategies and initiatives in support of PI organizational objectives. Initiatives will typically be focused on novel or innovative projects where the skills or knowledge required are not necessarily organic to the Product Management organization or when a strategy or project crosses multiple lines of business. The position¿s role can range from subject matter expert to business owner of an initiative. This position will support the following product lines: Personal Auto, Homeowners, High Value Homeowners, Dwelling Fire, Boat, Personal Articles and Umbrella.This position is located in Hartford, CT and is being offered as a Senior Product Analyst or Product Director Level depending upon experience. The position reports to the Managing Director of Product Development. JOB COMPONENTS/CRITICAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Drives Product Development (PD) initiatives for the Personal Insurance organization through the development and implementation of specific product and pricing strategies.Manages PD projects and enhancements. As the business owner and/or subject matter expert, you will manage the development, design and implementation strategy of the business concept or end-product. Coordinates efforts with PI stakeholders such as the National Team, State Product Teams, Direct To Consumer Teams, Business Center/Telesales Operations, Field Sales and Strategic Marketing and IT. . Directs market research activities as the PI client through partnership with Enterprise Market Research to develop consumer insights or evaluate / enhance product concepts.Performs both large and small cost benefit analyses, either in support of initiative funding, or to quickly assess new concept viability. Works with PI Finance and other stakeholders as necessary. Formulates business concepts for Travelers from consumer/agent insights, market trends and other sources.Uses market research and other resources effectively to develop and act upon consumer insights.Conducts analysis of competitor and industry trends and intelligence including, but not limited to rates, coverages, production costs, loss data, competitive positions, underwriting / marketing programs, and claim data. Conducts analysis of specific non-insurance trends and products and their potential impact on PI products. Incorporate analysis into PD strategies and initiatives and act as the subject matter expert for PI.Collaborates across the enterprise to share information and partner on new initiatives (e.g., Claim, Legal, IT, Intellectual Property, Finance, Business Insurance, Bond, etc.)JOB COMPETENCIES: Strong critical thinking and analysis skills Experience maneuvering in a complex, matrixed environment to execute business strategies Strong organization, prioritization and project management skills Leadership, innovation and initiating skills Solid to advanced knowledge of personal insurance or property/casualty insurance products. Basic knowledge of property casualty insurance pricing, finance, regulations and operations Demonstrated expertise in research, data analysis, trending, and reporting Strong technical skills including analysis of management information, and building/using Access databases and Excel to store and manipulate data Understanding of techniques and models used to forecast insurance or related financials Drives results and acts with a sense of urgency Strong oral and written communications skills. This includes the ability to prepare concise executive summaries.QUALIFICATIONS: 4-year college degree or equivalent work experience. MBA is desirable. Minimum 3 years in Personal Insurance for Senior Product Analyst Position. Director position requires at least 4-5+ years in Personal Insurance. Experienced using Microsoft products: Excel, Word, Visio, Access and PowerPoint. Basic knowledge of Impromptu or similar query tool.
