In this role, the incumbent ensures a broad view is taken as to the opportunities for profitable growth and facilitates interaction between the various stakeholders in appropriately aligning resources so as to maximize financial performance. Strategically the role interacts with the Small Commercial and Enterprise leadership to develop, sustain and adjust as necessary a comprehensive strategy for the line of business that aligns with business unit objectives and is appropriately consistent with the broader Business Insurance organization. Reports to the Chief Operating Officer, Small Commercial.PRIMARY DUTIES:Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, Small Commercial the incumbent works closely with Small Commercial Leadership to set, sustain and adjust as necessary line of business strategy that is integrated across the business unit with financial objectives, product, platform, and is consistent with Select Vision and Core Strategies.Is closely aligned with other VP¿s of Product Strategy, Product/Underwriting leadership, Actuarial, Strategic Marketing and the Field organization leadership to ensure a broad view is taken in setting state strategies and applying resources. Shares national versus local perspectives of performance to influence optimization of financial results. Provides insight to planning process in order to achieve countrywide product financial plan.Engages with and is an active participant on the Enterprise Product team to ensure a consistent view of the line of business is shared across the organization and that there is a mutual understanding of Small Commercial strategy. Leverages Enterprise insight and resources to maximize profit and growth opportunities. Represents Select on the Corporate CAT Risk Committee and assures alignment of Catastrophe strategies with Enterprise positions (CMP only).Acts as lead within Select for discussions related to potential changes to predictive models, pricing models and underlying rating plans to ensure updates and changes are thoroughly vetted and the financial as well as market implications are understood and consistent with strategic direction. Finalizes sign-off with a broader oversight team including the CUO, Chief Actuary and head of Field.Partners with Actuarial to understand the financial performance of the products along with forward looking trends in addition to quantifying the impact of our strategic initiatives.Works closely with the Product Development line leader and CUO to ensure underwriting strategy (including rules), product and platform are aligned with financial performance and objectives.Works with the Head of Field and PM 1¿s to ensure that state pricing action aggregate impacts and trends align with National Product strategies and financial objectives. Pricing actions include (but may not be limited to) OAP, market adjustments, tiers and base rate changes.Assesses competitor information to understand key competitors and the overall marketplace for the Product. Collaborates with Product/Underwriting and the Field organization to formulate and adjust strategies as appropriate. Works with Strategic Marketing to ensure that the ¿go to market¿ messaging for strategies is clear and properly positioned in the marketplace.Collaborate with the Compliance lead for Small Commercial to ensure that product strategies and pricing models supporting those strategies are consistent with the legal and regulatory environment in which they will be deployed. Also assures alignment with Enterprise positions and guidelines.Manage a staff of analytic professionals who will support national product strategy development.EDUCATION/COURSE OF STUDY: Bachelor¿s Degree with an emphasis in a Business discipline, is required. WORK EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE: •Minimum 10 years of Product Development, Underwriting or Product Management experience, with at least 3 years of Commercial Insurance leadership preferred. •Good practical understanding of commercial lines underwriting, pricing, coverage, systems and compliance. CERTIFICATES/DEGREES: An MBA degree, or CPCU, AU or ARM designations are a plus.COMMUNICATION SKILLS: •Exceptional oral and verbal communication, organizational and time management skills.•Strong collaboration and experience in developing working relationships with senior management, core business functions across the enterprise.•Ability to effectively influence and work collaboratively in a cross functional, team-oriented environment.•Strong presentation development and delivery skills; able to customize delivery to audience.COMPUTER SKILLS: •Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Outlook and navigating in the Internet.•Microsoft Access skills a plus.OTHER COMPETENCIES/SKILLS: •Strategic mindset.•Ability to effectively influence and drive decision-making and execution strategies.•Ability to think broadly across multiple business imperatives.•Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills. •High tolerance of business change, with ability to effectively manage that change across the organization.
