SUMMARY: This position has primary responsibility for leading and executing business analytics to optimize the development and enhancement of the Strategic Commercial Business Platform, inclusive of data assets, Third Party data integration, business rules and automated underwriting capabilities. This position also has primary responsibility for leveraging and maximizing multiple data sources to answer analytical business questions while also influencing the development and acquisition of new data assets to expand breadth and depth of future analytics. PRIMARY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:The incumbent will execute, manage and balance a variety of analytical assignments to inform strategic decision-making for the Strategic Commercial Business platform with the following objectives: • Third Party Data advancement and integration • Enhancing the user quoting experience• Creating operational underwriting efficiencies• Maximizing business unit production and profitable performance by optimizing platform automated underwriting capabilities and prudent selection of risk.The incumbent will participate in Platform Development and Optimization initiatives and projects with responsibility for the following: • Collaborate with manager and other business leads to create analytical plans, identifying and documenting all business questions and strategic objectives/goals • Execute analytical plans, leverage existing data assets to answer all business questions, provide insight and recommendations to inform strategic development and platform optimization opportunities• Summarize and present analytical findings and recommendations to a variety of audiences, ranging from executives to project teams to small working groups• Identify and recommend success criteria metrics and benchmarks for performance monitoring • Articulate and facilitate platform business rule requirements to enable product and underwriting strategy• Articulate and facilitate data persistence business requirementsCreate and maintain effective partnerships across the organization, collaborating extensively and appropriately leveraging the expertise of various functional areas within Select and Business Insurance. Compile and interpret large complex multivariate data sets.Identify and creatively use conventional and non-conventional data sources, employing advanced data mining and modeling techniques using software and tools such as SAS, Oracle, JMP, Terradata, and SQL. Create executive summaries and reports and present analytical insights and recommendations tailored to target audience.Influence and advance the Data Persistence Strategy and Best Practices, maximizing the breadth, depth, and quality of data available for future analytics.Influence and advance the Rules business strategy and Best Practices to optimize application of business rules within the automated underwriting platform. EDUCATION/COURSE OF STUDY:• Bachelor's degree in statistics, mathematics, or finance preferred with typically 3+ years of relevant work experience. • CPCU, ARM other insurance designations a plus.WORK EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE:• 3+ years relevant work experience in performing research and/or analytic work with evident progression of advancement and responsibility. Familiarity with automated quoting/underwriting platforms preferred. • Third Party Data background highly sought.• Excellent written and oral communication skills required; ability to translate complex insurance concepts into easily understood content and tailor to various audiences.• Computer Proficiency: Ability to read/revise/review a statistical software program preferred (e.g. SAS/SQL)• Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, ACCESS, PowerPoint and overall computer navigation. Familiarity with Cognos Query Studio, Cognos Report Studio, and Knowledge of SAS or JMP to manipulate complex data models is highly sought. Travelers is an equal opportunity employer.
